Ecommerce originates from Electronic Commerce is the selling or purchasing of goods and services over an electronic network systems like the internet and other networks. E-commerce was originated in the 1970’s, which was created for business usage only. It was mainly used to transfer business documents such as purchase orders and invoices. Fast forward to about 10 years later to the 1980’s when E-Commerce developed and adopted the credit card so that it can be used electronically. Also automatic teller machines (ATM) and telephone banking, which were fast and easy ways to transfer and to receive funds from an account without going to your bank and depositing or withdrawing. I think that it takes the form on every sites checkout. When you go to a site it has a place for you to go to and plug in you information so that the buy or ordering process can begin. It takes the form of the checkout person at the food store. For an example when you check out at the grocery store you pay with cash or credit. The same applies to an online site with E-Commerce. I think this is implemented across the web widely because the majority of the online sites deal with consumers going to sites in order to buy things that are hard to find or things that they want to purchase without the hassle as to going out to stores to get them in person. There are many government regulations towards E-Commerce. Many people have concerns about putting their personal information on the web. Many people having the fear of that certain personal information from getting out and into someone’s hands to potentially misuse it. With all sites that are selling a service have an agreement that none of you personal information that you enter is shared with any other party. A software application that is used to make E-commerce work is a merchant account. A merchant account is specialized bank account issued by a merchant processing bank. This allows the seller to accept payments via credit cards such as visa, master card, debit, or any other forms of payments. I personal think that all of this is a waste of time. You can go to www.paypal.com and set up an account to handle the payments for you. So when you receive a payment it goes directly into your pay pal account. With having pay pal you will have your potential customers trust because they know that pay pal is a legit, safe, and trust worthy payment site. They will feel safe and secure knowing that all of their personal information is protected. Pay pal is the number one site in my opinion that deals with online payments for buyers and sellers because it is safe and every one trusts it. Here is more on the whole process of creating software for E-commerce: http://www.equinox.ie/ARTICLES/eCommerce_Website/How_exactly_does_Ecommerce_work.html I am a consumer for ecommerce buyer. I have a lot of experience when it comes to being a buyer. I tend to get the majority of my shoes from online sites. I do this because I am a Hard core fan of Jordans and Nike Dunks, so I am on the computer surfing the web to find the most exclusive or rare ones out there. But mostly I search for Nike dunks online because I am a fan of the ones that make it to the store, but not a fan of having the same thing that everyone has. Nike Dunks and Jordans are the top two popular shoes among youth right now, so that means everyone has a pair on their feet. I’ve been a fan of The Air Jordans for as long as I can remember. When I left high school it kind of died out for me because there was nothing new that was coming out for a while that will caught my attention to buy. Nike Dunks came into the picture for me about two years ago; I fell in love with them. Every since then I have a very extensive collection of them due to the internet. I find the rarest ones that no one around would have on their feet, but with this uniqueness comes with spending money to have the best and this is why www.eBay.com has me in cuffs. At first I was skeptical with putting my personal information like my bank card on the internet to buy things. Through my personal experience with E-commerce, I have had all good experience with being an online buyer. The main two sites that are well known that I trust are eBay and pay-pal. I have never encountered a problem with these sites that work together. Offer some success stories and stories of failure. What makes a good commerce site? I think the look of a page makes it a good site. Meaning if the site looks professional and well put together people are going to see that the site is good and trustworthy. The site has to cater to the potential consumer/ buyers needs and wants. If they have a certain question or request about a product or service on the site, there should be a FAQ or contact us section so that they can see that what they want matters and that the site would try to make them feel secure about being a potential customer. For an example www.pickyourshoes.com is a prime example of a good commerce site because it executes with consumer appeal. The site looks professional and as you can see has a section dedicated to helping the consumer with sizing info, shipping info, cooperate info, and exchange/ exchange policies. I’ve asked one of my closest friends that I grew up with and is a fellow sneaker head if you will about his experience with this. He had nothing but good praises for this site, from the quality to the fast shipping services that they provide. He had nothing but great comments about his personal experience about this site. Due to what I see commonly shoes and clothes are the top sellers for merchandise sold on the web within my age range. They have numerous sneaker and clothing sites on the web. For an example this is one of my favorite online clothing sites that cater to my style. www.80spurple.com. The certain brands here on this site are different from the everyday brand that you see in local clothing stores, but like I stated before with this uniqueness comes with a pricey price tag but it’s worth it. There are many good services on the web, the two that I like and have used before were www.ups.com and www.fedex.com/us/. I think that this is a good service that sells the shipping of items. You have an item you want to get shipped you go on the site and buy a shipping label, pick your destination, and your done. Many corporations, businesses, and average people use this service. In my personal opinion I think that online ordering for food isn’t a good service/ product that are on the web. For an example like www.pizzahut.com or www.dominos.com. For some people I guess it works for them, but with my own personal experience the pizza received late and cold every time. So I don’t think that this certain feature of their organization will last long. E-commerce creates jobs for many people in the U.S. This is creating a lot of positions for many people. The internet is constantly growing so therefore the demand for products and services over the internet creates E-commerce. It is also making a big impact on the U.S businesses. As from the start of E-commerce in the 1970’s it was geared towards businesses. Now that it has evolved in many ways it still very important and vital to many U.S businesses. Businesses still today use it to transfer important business documents, purchase orders, and invoices. With the growth of the internet from then to now, the internet is much faster and better then it was in the 70’s. E-Commerce was mainly used by male businessmen, but now in the world today the youth is taking over tremendously. During a survey from http://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=707631 conducted from the study “The Face of the Web”: is based on surveys with 10,000 youths between the ages of 12 and 24 in 16 countries. It found that 54 percent of online young people around the world report using the Internet to gather information about products and services, but only 27 percent are currently buying. The internet is mainly used by teens and young adults so the buying of goods or services is at a high demand. For an example like most college students I tend to buy some of my books online because I find it to be cheaper than going to the bookstore at your campus. I think that E-commerce will replace the physical marketplace shopping because it is so much easier to certain people, without the hassle of going out. You have better selections then you would get if you were to go out to a store. For an example like I stated before with sneakers. I love sneakers and if I were to go out to a store and look for a pair of sneakers that no one has I would be out of luck. But if I were to go online I would have an endless supply to choose from. The advantages that come with it is the vast variety that comes with online buying versus going to the store and seeing what’s there is there. To me I think the disadvantage of it is that you don’t get what you pay for right then and there. With going to a store and purchasing something you can take it home with you right then and there, but for me I could make the exception and wait a couple of days.

The future for E-commerce is wide and is only getting wider. With the growth of technology so does the growth of the consumers. I think there will be bigger and better things in the future for E-commerce. Society might even transform into the Jetsons one day, hover cars and all.

When i read the article in the National Geographic, i was shocked. i would of never thought that high tech trash would ever be in it. I never even thought what they did with old computers would ever happen. I’ve never threw any of my old electronics in the trash. They are still here with me in my house as i type to you right now. I don’t know why but i just keep them all, maybe its just a way for me to remember things or moments in my life.

I was dissapointed to find out that the many recycling companies in the US aren’t really recycling the electronic trash that they get. It made me upset to find out that they just pack it all up and ship it to other countries and dump it off there. Instead of taking care of our own mess, we burden other countries to clean up our trash. In a way if you look at it they are cleaning up AMERICA. (high tech trash)

China enforce laws about the etrash being dumped in their country. But i think it would stop some of it from happening but personally i dont think they will be able to stop it completely.

I think what we can do is that we take care of our own. Im not saying that we have to stop buying the latest electronic that is out because i don’t think me or anyone else is able to do that..lol. But by saying taking care of our own i mean that we should actually dispose of our own etrash in our country by recycling it with in america.

When i read the article by Si Chen I learned a lot. Before reading the article i had no idea what shareware was. According to Si Chen shareware is a different concept. Shareware is free and downloadable, but cost to use it.It was developed by someone who holds intellectual property. Unlike on a website where you can view the source here you can’t. So their is noway to modify any of it. (opensourcestrategies.blogspot.com).

I have learned through this article that open source is open for all users which is free and has a modify way to distribute source codes.

I’ve visited download.com and i came across mozilla thunderbird. I am used to this site because i have been there before looking for different software to download.

But when it comes to installing things from this site i tend to be very skeptical. I have to make 100% sure that what ever i decide to download isn’t going to harm my computer in any way, from a virus or it crashing on me.

Ubiquitous Computing

     • Explain what ubiquitous computing is.-

Ubiquitous Computing is the idea of being completely surrounded by technology. Where to the point that computers are used so much they become apart of everyday life to everyone. Not just computers but in phones and music devices. Their are upgrades of all every year so the need for it grows.

Ubiquitous Computing and Privacy

As people become more attatched to technology everyday and use it with personal use to store personal information or even to pay bills. This can be very dangerous to store certain information because you privacy can be invaded. People can hack to find certain personal information about someones life.

If ubiquitous devices are worth a small sacrifice in privacy for the convenience and ease of doing everyday tasks.

In my opinion i say that it is worth it because we depend on it so much. The only defect about that is that if it gets into the wrong hands by someone else it could be threatening.

My opinion of Mark Weiser’s article

While reading this article, i got the impression that Mark Weiser visualized a world of computers would be compacted or even hand held. The hand held computing device would do everthing that you traditionally do sitting down at your desktop, but can now have the ability to do on the go any and everywhere.

A world of mobile devices are inevitable to the devolopment and growth of technology. Today we do have palm pilots pda’s music devices such as ipods and much more. What makes ubiquitous devices what they are is that we don’t have to got out of our way to do certain things that we used to do before computers came along like pay bills or even do research. We can all do it all with ease. Soon the computer itself would be old school.

With computers and laptops now a days we have to power them up, and wait for them to load. For typing we have to manually type what we want to be said. These extra steps that comes with the computer/ laptops are what ubiquitous computing wants to eliminate.

Thoughts on bill Gates opinion

In a BBC article, bill gates said that computers will be turning away from the traditional forms of imputing for an example like the mouse, keyboard, and etc. With this someday in the near future using technologies that mainly touch, vison, and voice commands. This would widely have a good impact on how we veiw or even access information.

I think that we cann all agree that the sensory imput devices would make communicating more easier n convient for us. This technology would be easier for everyone to use touch pad imputs or to speak commands instead of typing it manually by hand.

By making these technology easier ubiquitous computing can lessen the quality of published information. As this process becomes easier, more people would communicate ideas. Which means that not all ideas that are communicated are correct. For an example certain information, words, phrases, or sayings might be wrong. The more acces to technology would will decrease the quality because it isnt looked at as the same as if you were writing it down to show someone.

My Concluding Thoughts

As i stated before above with the technology growning more and more everyday, more information would be published and communicating ideas will greatly increase. This would be helpful to everyone if they were searching for sources or information.

My thoughts on podcasts

This is my first experience with podcast. I think that they are good and very useful to certain people like myself who rather listen to information rather then reading it.

Advantages of Tracking Technology:

1- RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags are begining to replace traditional UPC codes on commercial products. This will help streamline delivery and inventory tasks at retail stores and allow a more precise record keeping without human error. http://hamptonroads.com/node/145521

2- RFID tags will also be able to track items if they get misplaced or stolen, this will deter shoplifters. http://hamptonroads.com/node/145521

3- Employee Moniting Efficiency of Delivery systems

4- Following Special ops, Large, or small scale operations Military use

5- The bug is the most popular device in listening to phone conversations without being known. This is used to produce truthful evidence mostly by police or FBI among government agencies. Audio Surveillance

6- Airport surveillance is a must in today’s society and enforced to the max. Airport Technology
